THE SENIOR PORTRAIT

ADD ON OPTIONS :
- PROFESSIONAL HAIR + MAKEUP: We work with several incredibly talented professional hair and makeup artists and are happy to arrange the perfect one for your session. Prices vary, and start at $75 per person.

PRINTS + PRODUCTS : I want every senior to have the opportunity to have this portrait experience, which is why my session fee INCLUDES the yearbook photo so no further purchase is ever necessary. Should you wish to purchase prints, canvas, image folio boxes (VERY popular item!), there are advantages to placing your portrait order at your photo reveal and ordering session. Should you need more time to decide on an order, a private online proofing gallery may be hosted for a fee of $200. This fee will be applied toward your portrait order.
DIGITAL FILES: files are included with every photo you purchase!
......... whether you are the subject of countless selfies or avoid the camera like the plague, a professional portrait session is an experience like nothing else! If you’re nervous about having your photo taken, not to worry: My job will be to guide and direct you throughout your photo session and not only will you get new tips on how to pose to look your best in photos with me, you'll learn to take these tips to all of your photos after this, too! This is designed to be fun!

THE PORTRAIT PROCESS :
DEPOSIT + BOOK : Your non-refundable deposit ($150) guarantees your session booking, time (and reserves studio space if necessary). If we need to reschedule due to sickness or weather, your deposit is transferable.
CONSULTATION : After you have booked your session, we will discuss your desired location and styling for the session. I have two very different natural light studios available (one of them is historic/industrial/vintage and particularly fun the shear variety of settings it offerssenior sessions), but I also love photographing on location so if there's a place that means something to you, let's talk about that! I will then send you a list of things to bring to your session and tips to prepare.
SESSION DAY : Be sure to leave extra time to arrive (you’ll look more relaxed in photos if you’re not stressed out from traffic, and there may be someone scheduled after you so we don’t always have the liberty to go beyond our allotted session time!) First thing we'll do is spend a few minutes discussing your wardrobe choices. If you have arranged for makeup, you’ll have a consultation with your makeup artist, and then your job will be to relax and enjoy your makeover while I style the session around the clothing you have brought. And don’t worry, we’ll ease into your photo session and I’ll talk you through the process and make you look your best!
IN PERSON PHOTO REVEAL! : Approximately 2 weeks after your session we'll meet to see your PHOTOS!! Yes, I will show you real PRINTED, 5x7 gorgeous proofs from your session. I've developed a sorting system to help you narrow down your selections. Our boutique line of products has been carefully selected based on their highest quality, unique and archival characteristics. And yes, you’ll get to see and hold samples of these beautiful photographic products at your session! BRING anyone to this session who may want to purchase photos from your session!

Should a parent come?
- YES! It is not a requirement, but this is really a fun experience and having a parent or loved one there to be a part of the session has proven to be an added benefit to the session and authenticity of expression. I don’t even mind if you take iphone pix... if you get a few behind the scenes shots, I’d love to see!
Are there any timing requirements for senior photos?
- I love to do senior photos ALL YEAR ROUND, but here are a few things to keep in mind: if you have a yearbook deadline, give yourself enough time! We need at least 2 weeks from the session to turn around the photos (and give you time to decide on your favorite!) Bookings fill quickly the month before deadlines, so it’s best to book early, especially if you want to work with a makeup artist or specific space.
What should I bring / wear??

Do you have a senior model program?
- Traditional senior model programs are essentially glorified ways to get seniors to sell for the studio... and I don’t really want to do that to you! But if you genuinely LOVE your experience and if you want to share it, I do offer a $75 referral print credit for seniors who refer Merritt Design Photo to other seniors based on their experience. Combine that with the fact that there IS a discount for booking early, it does give you a chance to be part of something which I happen to think is pretty special! If you’re interested in sharing your experience and earning towards your portrait purchase (more money for college, right?), let me know and I’ll give you some tools to help you spread the word by using photos from your session!
